Plain Catgut Suture (ORIGUT®)

Plain Catgut Suture is a fast absorbing surgical gut suture made from strand of collage nous material prepared from the sub mucosal layers of the small intestine of healthy sheep. Fast absorbing plain catgut sutures are sterile and elicit only a slight to minimal tissue reaction during absorption. In as much as dependable surgical procedures for tissue anastomosis and ligature are concerned Plain Catgut Suture insists on the time tested. Developed from layers of healthy submucosa of sheep intestines, this suturing material is performing brilliantly and has low tissue reactivity.

Are you in the process of choosing the right type of absorbable suture that would suit your surgery requirements? Plain catgut sutures could be the solution. Among surgical sutures, the plain catgut suture is in great demand due to its effectiveness and reasonable application.

These sutures are commonly applied in many operations due to their improved manner of handling and efficiency, thus resulting in better outcomes.

Being one of the products of Orion Sutures, it is designed to meet high standards of quality and efficiency. So, what is all the fuss about plain catgut sutures anyway, and why are they so favoured in the medical industry? Let’s find out.

Plain catgut sutures are a natural loss of absorbent sutures obtained from the submucous layer of the sheep’s or goat’s stomach’s earlier intestines. Consisting mainly of the collagen protein, the tissues offer the proper tensile strength as well as elasticity.

Plain catgut sutures, on the other hand, have not gone through the chemical process to delay their absorption and therefore do not take long before they are absorbed. Due to these characteristics, they are recommended for particular forms of surgery where strong and fast interfacing of tissues and low immunity to foreign objects are needed.

Natural Absorbability: Another advantage of plain catgut suture is that it is readily absorbable in the body as it is natural. Applying natural enzymes, it gradually becomes absorbed in the body and does not require suture removal. This characteristic is useful when the internal tissue grows at a fast pace and does not need to stay strong for an extended period.

Biocompatibility: The Plain Catgut Suture material is less sensitizing to tissue; hence, it creates the desired tissue response to the suture material. Being a natural substance, it does not cause a wide range of negative side effects or harm the body’s susceptibility to infections. Orion Sutures makes certain that each suture they produce will pass the requirements on biocompatibility.

Easy to Handle and Knot Security: Plain catgut sutures are recognized for their fine manipulation properties, whereby there are no frays when the suture is passed through the tissues or when knotting the suture. This definitely aids in achieving a good approximation of the tissue and good healing conditions. This knot-holding capacity of Plain Catgut Sutures is improved and contributes to the accuracy of surgeries.

Versatility in Surgical Applications: It is recommended for many different operations and belongs to the plain catgut suture material. It finds frequent application in general surgery, gynaecological surgery, ocular surgery, and veterinary surgery. Because of its temporary support for the wound, it is more desirable for use on tissues that have a quick healing time.
